Michael was born into the dairy business, growing up and working on his family's 700-cow dairy in Tulare, CA. In 1995, the family farm was moved to Chowchilla, CA, where it successfully operated until 2005. Desiring to further his education, Michael enrolled at Modesto Junior College in Modesto, CA, where he pursued a course of study in dairy science. While attending MJC, Michael was a member of the college's national championship Dairy Judging Team. In the summer of 2000, Michael interned with Regusci Dairy Consulting of Pismo Beach, CA where he learned to balance and analyze rations.

Upon reception of his Associates Degree in Dairy Science at MJC, Michael transferred to Cornell University in January 2001 where he continued his education and experience pursuing a degree in animal science. In the summer of that year, Michael entered an internship position at Cargill's West Coast office in Stockton, CA where he furthered his knowledge of dairy nutrition. His internship project was the development and implementation of an Employee Labor Management Scorecard. Michael again took part in his school's Dairy Judging Team, which placed 1st at the national contest in October 2001. Michael was also involved in Cornell's Dairy Fellows Program, which consisted of taking knowledge gained in the classroom and applying it in real life situations. In March 2002, Michael traveled to Italy with the Cornell University Dairy Science (CUDS) Club where the students researched dairy farming and cheese-making abroad. During his senior year at Cornell, Michael interned with Aurora Dairy, working in Aurora's Florida operations which are known today as DPS Bell and Branford Farm and Southeast Dairy Company.

During this internship, management recognized Michael's potential as a future leader and manager, and upon his graduation in May 2002 and receipt of his Bachelors Degree in Animal Science, he was extended an offer to join the management team as Assistant General Manager of Aurora's Colorado location. He was named General Manager of that facility in February 2003.

In September 2004, Michael was promoted to Assistant Operations Officer of Aurora Dairy assuming the responsibility of overseeing production and management on all Aurora-related farms. In October 2004, Michael retained the position of Assistant Operations Officer during the creation of Dairy Production Systems. On August 1, 2005, Michael was further promoted to Vice President and Chief Operating Officer assuming full operational management responsibility under the direction of DPS CEO David Sumrall.

Michael and his wife Carrie have a daughter, Madison, a son, Noah, and reside in High Springs, FL.
