Rick was raised in northern Illinois in a small agricultural community. His father supported the family as the Vice President of a steel mill, while his mother took care of the home. After graduating high school, Rick enrolled in Southern Illinois University. Two years into his college experience, Rick enlisted in the United States Army, was stationed in North Carolina and served from 1972-1974.

Once out of the service, Rick relocated to Tennessee and was hired as a driver for a local trucking company. In 1975, the company transferred Rick to Florida where he met his wife Janet. He and Janet hauled produce until 1981 when Rick began hauling milk. Rick hauled milk for an owner/operator for Florida Dairy Farmers Association. Rick was promoted to terminal manager for Florida Dairy Farmers in 1987, a position he maintained until 1998. At that time, Rick was further promoted to terminal manager for two merging companies. TIDFA and Florida Dairy Farmers merged to create Southeast Milk Company (SMI). In 2000, Rick moved to Belleview, Florida where he served as trucking manager for SMI. Two years later, Rick was moved to manager of field services where he got the opportunity to work directly with dairy farmers.

Later, in 2004, Rick was offered the position of Production Manager for Dairy Production Systems. His extensive experience with SMI made him a lead candidate for the position. As Production Manager, Rick is in charge of parlor operations, milking processes, and milk quality on all farms, and also serves as Safety Coordinator for the corporation.

Rick and his wife Janet currently live in Bell, Florida.
